It was a cold windy afternoon on Tuesday, 11 January 2012 but this was transformed into a warm jovial meeting inside the Philippine Embassy in The Hague. Several UPAA-NL members called on the new Philippine Ambassador to The Netherlands, Her Excellency Ambassador Madam Lourdes G. Morales. Also a graduate of the University of the Philippines, she was pleased to learn about the accomplishments of UPAA-NL and its current project of assisting the UP Library’s digitisation programme by providing the Library with five computer servers. She emphasized that the Philippine Embassy will continue to support this project and future projects of UPAA-NL. On her side, she informed about the several economic projects which the Embassy will pursue such as, amongst others, promotion of Philippine tourism and its tourism campaign within its slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines”, inviting birdwatchers’ associations and Dutch birdwatching enthusiasts and the launching in The Netherlands of a Philippine vodka made from coconut. Lulu Altamirano van der Meer, President of UPAA-NL, assured the Ambassador that UPAA-NL will support her and the Embassy in these and other future projects.
